After years of design, engineering, and construction, it all comes down to one moment, taking the yacht to sea for the first time. This stage is known as sea trials and delivery, and it’s where the shipyard proves that everything works exactly as promised.

##What Happens During Sea Trials

Sea trials are not ceremonial; they’re highly technical and closely monitored. The yacht is taken out with representatives from the shipyard, naval architects, classification society, and often the owner or their surveyor on board. During this phase, each system and specification is tested under real-world conditions:

• Performance: Verifying speed, fuel consumption, and range match contractual specifications.
• Stability & Handling: Assessing turning radius, acceleration, stopping distance, and overall maneuverability.
• Systems Check: Engines, generators, stabilizers, HVAC, hydraulics, navigation, and AV/IT, all run at operational loads.
• Noise & Vibration: Measuring acoustic comfort to ensure the yacht meets class and onboard comfort standards.
• Safety Equipment: Confirming fire systems, alarms, and lifesaving gear function correctly and comply with regulations.

##Delivery Preparation

Once sea trials are successfully completed, the shipyard begins the delivery protocol. This includes preparing all required documentation, such as:

• Classification and flag certificates
• Technical manuals and system schematics
• Warranties for major components and equipment
• Final inspection reports confirming all contractual specs are met

The owner’s team reviews every detail to ensure the yacht matches the agreed standards and finishes before formal acceptance.

##The Handover

At the moment of delivery, ownership officially transfers to the buyer. From that point on, all responsibilities, including crew, insurance, and management, pass to the owner. However, the shipyard remains involved during the warranty period (typically 12–24 months) to correct any defects, address fine-tuning needs, and ensure systems continue to perform optimally.
